Tilak High School Triumphs as National Math Champions!

Tilak High School has been announced as the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC) Champions. The event took place at LDS College in Suva, attracting students from various schools nationwide to demonstrate their mathematical abilities.

The winning team, guided by Shaeez Khan and supported by math teacher Ana Vatubula, celebrated a remarkable achievement. The assistant principal acknowledged the victory as a reflection of the hard work and dedication exhibited by both teachers and students.

Tilak High School’s Year 11 and Year 13 teams clinched first place, while the Year 12 team secured second place. Earlier in the year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak finished as the zonal runner-up in a competition held at SVC, which served as a strong foundation for their national triumph.

Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in attitudes toward mathematics in schools, stating, “Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.” The success of Tilak High School in this year’s competition underscores the relentless commitment of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who dedicated themselves to training the students.

The students were filled with pride as they held their trophies, representing their hard-earned success and the school’s ongoing excellence in academic competitions. With these achievements, Tilak High School further solidifies its reputation as a leading institution for academic excellence in Fiji.
