Tilak High School Takes the Crown at 2024 National Math Championships!

Tilak High School has achieved the title of the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC) Champions.

The event took place at LDS College in Suva, uniting students from various schools across the nation to demonstrate their mathematical prowess. The victorious team was captained by Shaeez Khan, with guidance from mathematics teacher Ana Vatubula.

The assistant principal remarked, “This victory is the result of the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students.” The team’s dedication was evident as the Year 11 and Year 13 teams clinched first place, while the Year 12 team achieved second place.

Earlier in the year, in Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak secured the position of zonal runner-up in a competition at SVC, an experience that laid the foundation for their success at the national level.

Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in mindset regarding mathematics in schools, stating, “One thing that needs to change in schools is the mentality towards maths. Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.”

The triumph of Tilak High School in this competition highlights the relentless dedication of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who devoted countless hours to train the students. Their hard work not only brought pride to the school but also served as an inspiration for younger students to strive for excellence in mathematics.

The team proudly displayed their trophies, which symbolize their hard-earned success and reflect Tilak High School’s ongoing excellence in academic competitions. With these achievements, the school continues to set high standards, reinforcing its status as one of Fiji’s premier institutions for academic excellence.
