Tilak High School Claims National Math Championship Glory!

Tilak High School has been named the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC) Champions.

The event took place at LDS College in Suva, bringing together students from various schools across the nation to demonstrate their mathematical abilities. The winning team, guided by Shaeez Khan and supported by math teacher Ana Vatubula, achieved remarkable success.

The assistant principal attributed the victory to the hard work and dedication of both teachers and students. Their efforts paid off as the Year 11 and Year 13 teams claimed first place, while the Year 12 team finished in second place.

Earlier in the year, Team Tilak also achieved recognition as the zonal runner-up in a competition held at SVC during Week 10 of Term 2. This prior accomplishment set the stage for their eventual triumph at the national level.

Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in schools’ perspectives on mathematics, stating, “Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.”

The success of Tilak High School in this competition highlights the steadfast dedication of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who worked diligently to prepare the students. Their collective efforts not only brought pride to the school but also inspired younger students to strive for excellence in mathematics.

The team celebrated their achievements, proudly holding their trophies, which symbolize their hard work and reflect Tilak High School’s ongoing success in academic competitions. Through such accomplishments, the school continues to uphold its reputation as one of Fiji’s premier institutions for academic excellence.
