Tilak High School is gearing up for two significant events: a reunion for ex-scholars this weekend and a special Tilak Night celebration on July 25, highlighting the school’s remarkable 70-year history. Principal Vinod Kumar mentioned that while Tilak Night was an annual celebration in the past, it was suspended in 2015 due to a school policy change. It made a comeback last year and promises to be grand this time, with an expected attendance of between 2,000 to 3,000 people.
This year’s Tilak Night will feature a day filled with activities followed by an evening gala where students will showcase their talents, encapsulating the school’s community spirit and dedication to celebrating its legacy. The festivities will take place on the school grounds, while the reunion will be hosted at the South Seas Club.
Mr. Kumar, reflecting on the school’s impact, noted that Tilak High School has produced numerous successful individuals who have excelled in various professional fields. The transformation of the school’s enrollment over the years is notable; it has grown from an initial 300 students to a current roll of 1,018.
Former pupil Adam Ali explained the decision to separate the reunion and Tilak Night, stating that the school’s regulations about alcohol consumption influenced the scheduling of events. The reunion will provide attendees with a tour of the school, followed by an evening cocktail party and dinner.
Celebrations of educational institutions serve not only as a reflection of their histories but also highlight the strength of community ties, much like the recent anniversary of St. Anne’s Primary School, where alumni came together for a week-long series of events, fostering connections and engaging in various activities designed to celebrate their legacy.
The Tilak High School festivities promise to be a joyful occasion, bringing together past and present students, families, and the broader community, creating lasting memories while honoring the institution’s enduring contributions to education.
