TikTok Star Faces Plea Over Online Remarks Targeting Minister

A 31-year-old farmer and TikTok personality, Lui Vuibureta, is set to enter his plea next month regarding multiple charges he faces, including indecently annoying a person, criminal intimidation, and causing harm through electronic communication. Vuibureta appeared before Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola at the Suva Magistrate Court, where discussions focused on the case’s jurisdiction, particularly the possibility of transferring it to the High Court.

The charges stem from Vuibureta’s alleged posting of derogatory remarks aimed at Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Information, with the intention of causing her harm. He is represented by lawyer Matelita Koroibola from the August Legal law firm, while the prosecution is led by DPP lawyer Bhavna Kantharia, who has already provided the second set of disclosures in the case.

The proceedings have been adjourned, and the next hearing is scheduled for the 10th of next month. This case highlights the ongoing legal complexities surrounding social media interactions and the potential consequences of online behavior.
