Former Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Nancy Tikoisuva has clarified that her contract has not been revoked. She stated that her role as Acting DPP officially came to an end when Christopher Pryde was expected to resume his position on Monday. Tikoisuva confirmed that she is continuing her work as a state prosecutor, a substantive role she has held throughout her legal career.

Tikoisuva’s clarification follows reports suggesting that her contract had been terminated by the office of the President. She emphasized that she remains in her permanent position as a state prosecutor. Additionally, the Office of the President has directed all inquiries regarding the DPP’s contracts to the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), which is responsible for managing the employment matters pertaining to the DPP and other state officials.

Having acted as DPP for six months, Tikoisuva’s professional background features an extensive legal career spanning over 18 years. She has previously served in senior roles, including as the acting assistant director for the DPP.

Her leadership, particularly as a prominent female figure in Fiji’s legal landscape, is a source of inspiration, especially as she encourages her colleagues to persevere and let their work reflect their capabilities.

This situation marks a transitional phase for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, paving the way for potential reforms aimed at bolstering transparency and accountability within Fiji’s legal institutions. Stakeholders may view these developments positively, as they hold the promise of enhancing public trust in the justice system.

In summary, while Tikoisuva navigates changes in her professional role, the underlying structure of the DPP’s leadership may also lead to significant advancements in legal governance in the future.
