Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua has publicly thanked Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for accepting his proposal to step back from his position as Immigration Minister. He expressed his appreciation on social media, emphasizing his commitment to continue serving the Fijian people in his roles as Minister for Defence and Veteran’s Affairs.

Tikoduadua’s decision to temporarily step aside comes amidst increasing scrutiny faced by the department over allegations surrounding the unauthorized issuance of passports to children linked to individuals accused in the Grace Road human rights case. His choice was driven by a desire for a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations.

In response, Prime Minister Rabuka has reassigned the responsibilities of the Immigration Department and the Fiji Police Force under his own portfolio, effective immediately. Meanwhile, Tikoduadua will retain his positions overseeing defence, veteran affairs, and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).

This situation underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in governance, as leaders take necessary steps to uphold public trust.

Overall, the commitment to ensuring an impartial investigation showcases a positive step toward integrity in leadership and governance within the Fijian government. This approach not only addresses the current concerns but also sets a precedent for future actions, reflecting a government dedicated to rectifying issues and serving its citizens effectively.
