Tiger Woods has stated that discussions aimed at reconciling the ongoing divisions in professional golf between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf are progressing positively. During a recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Woods revealed that PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Player Director Adam Scott successfully engaged the President in advocating for involvement in dialogues with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Since its inception in June 2022, LIV Golf has introduced a fresh format featuring 54-hole, no-cut events, rapidly attracting top talents through substantial financial incentives, including vast contracts and prize purses. Notable players drawn to LIV Golf include major champions such as Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau.

After a tumultuous year of disputes, a framework agreement announced in June 2023 aimed to merge the commercial operations of the PGA Tour, PIF, and the Europe-based DP World Tour into a new entity, with a deadline set for December 31 of that year for a definitive agreement. However, this announcement raised concerns among U.S. lawmakers who are wary of Saudi Arabia and critical of its human rights practices.

As the deadline was extended amid ongoing negotiations, interest from outside investors in the PGA Tour surged, particularly from the Strategic Sports Group, led by Fenway Sports Group. LIV Golf, which has conducted events at Trump-owned courses since its beginning, is set to return to Trump National Doral in Miami for an event in April 2025.

The ongoing dialogue marks a hopeful chapter in the reconciliation efforts within professional golf, suggesting potential stability and unity in the future of the sport. As these discussions continue to develop, the involvement of influential figures like Tiger Woods can serve to bridge gaps and foster positive relationships among varying factions of the professional golf community.
