Commonwealth leaders took part in the event titled “An Ocean of Opportunity: Commonwealth Progress on Ocean Action” during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held in Apia, Samoa, yesterday.
This event aimed to discuss the execution of the Commonwealth Ocean Declaration, which seeks to promote sustainable ocean financing.
Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sitiveni Rabuka delivered remarks highlighting the significant advancements made in ocean initiatives over the past six years since the Blue Charter was adopted by Commonwealth leaders.
Rabuka emphasized that, as a Small Island Developing State and a Commonwealth Small State, the Declaration holds profound importance, relevance, and urgency for them. He noted that the ocean is central to their geography and is deeply intertwined with their identity.
