Energy Fiji Limited reported that severe thunderstorms and lightning activity in Monasavu resulted in a disruption of power supply due to a strike on the transmission line. Acting Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi explained that at 6 am, the 132,000 volts transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka tripped, leading to power outages in various areas of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, Naimawi confirmed that EFL teams were able to quickly restore the main transmission line, with power supply fully resumed by 8:30 am.
This incident highlights the resilience and efficiency of EFL’s response teams in managing unexpected challenges. The quick restoration of power is a positive reflection of their operational readiness and commitment to serving the community. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of infrastructure resilience in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
