Thunderstorm Disrupts Power Supply: EFL Restores Service in Record Time

Energy Fiji Limited has reported a significant disruption to power supply caused by severe thunder and lightning activity in Monasavu. A lightning strike impacted the transmission line, leading to outages in parts of Viti Levu’s Central and Western Divisions.

According to Bobby Naimawi, the Acting Chief Operating Officer, the incident occurred at 6 a.m. on the 132,000 volts transmission lines connecting Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka. This resulted in the isolation of electricity supply to the affected areas.

Fortunately, Naimawi indicated that EFL teams swiftly addressed the issue, successfully restoring the main transmission line and fully restoring power by 8:30 a.m.

This incident highlights the resilience and efficiency of Energy Fiji Limited’s response teams, as they managed to return service to the affected communities promptly. It showcases the importance of preparedness and rapid response in maintaining essential services during adverse weather conditions.
