In a highlight match, Nausori Majidez secured a hefty victory over the Black Ducks, winning by 57 runs. Majidez posted a total of 136 runs while claiming two wickets within their allotted 20 overs. The Veiyasana Stars also made headlines, achieving a dominant 10-wicket win against Lami Lights, finishing their innings with 54 runs in just 6.5 overs, outdoing the Lights’ modest score of 53 runs. The final match of the day saw Black Ducks edge past Sarafui Sinas, winning by six wickets, with the Ducks tallying 116 runs compared to the Sinas’ 113.

Cricket Fiji president Sitiveni Rokoro emphasized the league’s importance as a vital preparation stage for selecting players for the upcoming inaugural Four Nations tournament in New Caledonia, which will take place in March. With only two rounds remaining before the Suva teams clash against their rivals from Nadi, the stakes are high as teams vie for a top two finish to ensure their advancement to the finals.

This league not only serves as an exciting local competition but also plays a critical role in identifying talent for the national team, reinforcing the growing investment in women’s cricket in Fiji. With large crowds attending matches and increased participation among women cricketers, there is a tangible sense of optimism surrounding the sport. Moreover, Fiji is gearing up to host the ICC T20 East Asia Pacific qualifier later this year, where teams will compete for a coveted spot in the 2026 Women’s World Cup.

In summary, the Suva Women’s T20 League has become a platform for cultivating talent and promoting women’s cricket in Fiji, spotlighting the dedication and potential of its athletes. As the tournament progresses and international opportunities beckon, the future of women’s cricket in Fiji looks increasingly promising.
