The Kaliova Bulai-captained Ba Methodist High School Under-19 team is fully prepared for the Western Secondary Schools Rugby Deans Championship quarterfinal at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, set for tomorrow.
They are set to face Sigatoka Valley Secondary School in what promises to be an exciting match.
Coached by Paula Tuiloma, the team secured a dominant 31-3 victory against Nasau Secondary School during the Ba/Tavua/Ra Zone final at Garvey Park, Tavua, last Saturday.
Several players from the team previously competed in the school’s Under-18 sevens rugby team, which narrowly lost to Ratu Navula College 15-10 at the HFC Bank Stadium during the Term One holidays.
David King Wise, head of the PEMAC department, noted, “This is the first time we are fielding three teams, and I hope the Under-19 side makes an impact. The team is in top form, with the boy’s morale at its highest.”
The team relies heavily on Bulai, who plays prop, along with full-back Pio Bosco Tikoisuva (Jnr) and winger Petero Dauniseka.
In the U16 grade, the Josateki Naliva-captained team will face Sigatoka Methodist College in the quarterfinals.
“This team comprises only 16 boys who were left out from the other teams, and it has been remarkable. They remained undefeated in the zone, and we hope they can advance beyond the quarters,” Wise said.
The U16 squad, coached by Thomas Vuto, includes dynamic flankers Rupeni Nailatikau and Asivorosi Nahiga, who will be key players in the breakdowns.
In the U15 grade, the Osea Naura-captained side will compete against Cuvu College.
“This is the group of boys that made history earlier this year by winning the National Secondary Schools Rugby League Under-15 grade final,” Wise added. The team also features notable players like Seruvi Vakalolo, Semi Sasai, and Eneri Saunivalu.
