A 2-2 tie in a fiercely contested Group A match between Suva and Navua marked the opening game of Day 2 at the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), keeping both teams in the hunt for a semifinal berth.
After suffering losses in their opening matches against Labasa and Lautoka, both teams were eager for a positive outcome. Suva appeared sharper and managed to find the net in the 8th and 29th minutes, thanks to Samuela Drudru and Solomon Islander Gagame Feni.
Navua responded with a goal just before halftime, courtesy of a free-kick from Kolinio Sivoki that left Suva’s goalkeeper, Akuila Mateisuva, helpless. At halftime, Suva held a 2-1 lead. However, a defensive lapse by Remueru Tekiate allowed Thomas Dunn to equalize with a precise finish midway through the second half.
With each team earning a point, they must secure victories in their concluding matches tomorrow to increase their chances of advancing to the semifinals. Flick Hygiene Suva is scheduled to face Flick Hygiene Lautoka at 8 pm, while Stratum Construction/Zeg Investment Navua will take on Extra Supermarket Labasa at 4 pm.
