Three Missing at Sea as Fiji Drownings Emerge Near Lautoka

A tragedy has struck off the coast of Vio Island in Lautoka, where one person has lost their life and three individuals are currently missing at sea, including a 7-year-old boy. Police spokesperson Wame has confirmed that a body was recovered earlier today, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.

This unfortunate event adds to a spate of recent drownings in the region. In a separate incident, a three-year-old boy drowned in Levuka just yesterday. His body was discovered floating in Totogo Creek by a 14-year-old student a short distance from the victim’s home. The local authorities are conducting an investigation into this tragic occurrence as well.

The police are emphasizing the need for increased vigilance, especially given the recent incidents and the upcoming cyclone season. Families are urged to keep a close watch on their children to prevent such heart-wrenching events from happening again. The community has been showing remarkable support and cooperation in the search efforts, as highlighted by the gratitude expressed by local police in previous rescue missions.

As authorities continue their investigations, there is hope that with greater awareness and precautionary measures, future tragedies can be averted, allowing families to remain safe during recreational activities near water.
