Three Men Face Serious Charges in Suva Courtroom Drama

Three men have been remanded at Suva’s Magistrates Court after facing serious charges related to the possession of illegal drugs and assault. The accused, Lemeki Baleiwai, 29, Maciu Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Susewa, 23, appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza this afternoon.

Baleiwai is specifically charged with one count of possessing illicit drugs, identified as marijuana, found in his possession on November 18, 2024. Jiuta and Susewa are facing serious assault charges connected to an incident where they allegedly assaulted two police officers during a raid.

The court was informed by the Police Prosecutor that all necessary disclosures have been provided to both the accused and their defense teams, who have acknowledged receipt. The case has been scheduled for a bail hearing and further mention at Court four on November 29.

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding drug possession and related violence, but it also emphasizes the legal system’s efforts to address and investigate such crimes.
