Three separate road accidents claimed the lives of three individuals yesterday, raising urgent safety concerns among law enforcement officials.
The first tragic incident occurred in the early morning hours when a 65-year-old woman, who was waiting for a bus on Korociriciri Road in Nausori, was struck by a vehicle. She was quickly transported to the Nausori Health Centre, where she was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver responsible for the accident is currently in police custody as investigations are underway.
In a second accident along Queens Road at the Yarawa stretch, a man lost his life after the vehicle he was driving veered off the road. Authorities reported that the deceased is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident, underlining the dangers of driving under the influence.
The third fatality involved a 34-year-old man who succumbed to injuries sustained from an incident that occurred on Boxing Day along Waicoka Road in Nausori. The vehicle he was in failed to navigate a sharp bend, resulting in it ending up in a mud pool. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene. Initially treated at the Nausori Health Centre, the victim was later transferred to CWM Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away last night.
As police continue their investigations into these incidents, they are urging motorists to exercise caution and follow road safety regulations to prevent further tragedies on the roads. The renewed calls for responsible driving come at a critical time, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety measures for all road users.
