A man has been apprehended by police after allegedly making threats to shoot individuals traveling between Lautoka and Ba if authorities did not release 2.6 tonnes of cocaine that was confiscated earlier this month in Vatia, Tavua. Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu confirmed the suspect’s arrest yesterday afternoon, stating that he is currently in custody.
The apprehension came in response to a video that gained significant traction on social media, where the man made threats towards the Fiji Police Force, demanding the return of the seized drugs while asserting his ownership of the cocaine. The police have indicated that the suspect will face investigations for alleged intimidation.
Bautolu emphasized that this situation is being taken seriously due to the alarming nature of the threats and the public concern they have prompted. The substantial haul of 2.6 tonnes of cocaine, which was seized during a recent police operation in Tavua, is recognized as one of the largest drug seizures in the country’s history. The ongoing investigations reflect law enforcement’s commitment to addressing drug-related crime and public safety concerns.
