The Fiji Police Force has taken action to address threats received by the Verma family following the viral release of a video featuring their son, Bhavik Verma. The video showed Illiesa Toga, a security guard involved in a recent car accident, admitting fault. Since its publication, Toga has garnered considerable public support, while the Verma family has faced negative repercussions.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed the police’s awareness of the threats directed at the Verma family through phone calls and text messages. Driu stated that the police have contacted individuals linked to these threats, and an investigation is currently underway. The report concerning this matter was filed at the Samabula Police Station.

Sanjay Verma, Bhavik’s father, expressed his concerns for their family’s safety due to alarming messages and calls they have received, prompting him to request increased police patrols near their home in Suva.

In a surprising twist, the overwhelming public support for Mr. Toga has led to more than FJD$3300 in M-PAiSA transfers as donations from Fijians both locally and abroad, with many viewing the incident as a “blessing in disguise” for him. However, Mr. Toga has urged the public to refrain from hostility towards the Verma family amid the backlash they are facing.

This situation illustrates a broader theme of community support, as even in challenging circumstances, individuals have stepped forward to offer help while also advocating for peaceful resolutions.

The ongoing investigation signifies the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all parties involved. It is hopeful that with vigilance and community compassion, a resolution that prioritizes peace and understanding can be achieved.
