The Fiji Police Force has proactively contacted individuals who allegedly threatened the Verma family following a viral video posted by their son, Bhavik Verma. The video featured a security guard, Ilesa Toga, who was involved in a recent car accident and confessed his fault while being recorded.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that the police are aware of threats made against the Verma family, reportedly through phone calls and text messages. After the video’s release, Mr. Toga garnered considerable support from the public, whereas the Verma family faced significant backlash.

“The report was received at Samabula Police Station,” ACPO Driu stated. “Police have managed to contact and speak to those involved in making threats, and investigations are ongoing.”

Following the incident, Bhavik’s father, Sanjay Verma, expressed serious concerns about his family’s safety and requested an increase in police presence around their home in Suva.

Despite the tensions, the video has drawn praise from Fijians both domestically and abroad, with many referring to it as a “blessing in disguise” for Mr. Toga, who has received over FJD$3,300 in M-PAiSA transfers as a show of community support. In a positive turn, Mr. Toga has called for the public to refrain from any hostility towards the Verma family.

This situation underscores the importance of community support and compassion amidst challenging circumstances. It serves as a reminder of how quickly public perception can shift, urging individuals to foster kindness and understanding rather than animosity.

In summary, while the Verma family experienced threats following a viral incident, they are receiving support from the community, illustrating the complexities of social media in shaping public opinion and the potential for positive outcomes despite adversity.
