“The One-China Principle: Ambassador’s Strong Warning”

Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and the one-China principle is a red line that should never be crossed.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, emphasized this point during remarks at the 97th Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Suva last Friday.

Addressing senior members of the Fiji Government, including Acting Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua, he stated that “Taiwan is China’s Taiwan.”

“The Taiwan question is China’s domestic affair, and no foreign force has the right to interfere,” Ambassador Jian asserted.

“We are firmly against any move that aims to upgrade substantive relations with Taiwan. The one-China principle is a red line that must not be crossed.”

Ambassador Jian indicated that the biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait comes from the separatist activities of “Taiwan independence” elements and “the support of certain external forces for them.”

“We will strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and efforts, but we firmly oppose any separatist move towards ‘Taiwan independence’ and any foreign interference. Seeking ‘Taiwan independence’ will get nowhere.”

Ambassador Jian warned that “no one should underestimate the resolve, will, and capability of the Chinese people in defending our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
