JAY Whyte, the founding director of the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, expressed his gratitude to the extensive network of sponsors, media partners, teams, officials, fans, and supporters that contributed to the success of this year’s tournament, which concluded yesterday.

The event wrapped up with the Yaro Chiefs being crowned the men’s champions, earning $50,000 in prize money after a thrilling final against the Ravuka Sharks. Whyte attributed the tournament’s triumph to the collective efforts of everyone involved, highlighting how smoothly the event executed thanks to their commitment and hard work.

“The success of the tournament is the people; that’s the quickest summary I can give you,” Whyte stated. “The action on the field will take care of itself because of the quality of the players, but what happens in the grandstand and around Lawaqa Park, despite its limitations, is crucial to creating a better experience each year.”

Whyte likened the collective success of the Coral Coast 7s to a tree, emphasizing that while he may be at the top, the support from all involved represents the roots and branches that sustain the event. He acknowledged the wide-ranging contributions—from the media and grounds crew to volunteers and sponsors—that facilitate the tournament’s continuity, allow for free entry for spectators, and enrich the overall atmosphere with their dedication.

This year’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s showcased not just exceptional sporting talent but also the spirit of community collaboration, underscoring the importance of teamwork in creating a memorable experience for all.
