Beyond the headline

New teaser footage for The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropped Wednesday, reuniting Meryl Streep’s imperious Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs in a brisk, less-than-minute glimpse that confirms the sequel will hit cinemas on May 1, 2026. The short clip — set to Madonna’s 1990 hit “Vogue” — gives fans their first official look at the pair back in the cutthroat world of Runway magazine and offers a cheeky nod to the long-suspected real‑life Vogue inspiration.

In the teaser, Streep’s Miranda walks through the magazine’s offices in red heels, pausing at an elevator where Hathaway’s Andy joins her, shaded by black sunglasses. “Took you long enough,” Miranda says, prompting Andy’s knowing smirk. The use of “Vogue” as soundtrack underlines the franchise’s sharp ties to fashion-world iconography and the public association of Miranda with Anna Wintour.

The clip also delivered casting updates that matter to fans: Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are confirmed to be returning alongside Streep and Hathaway, while Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman — who played Andy’s friend and magazine executive Irv Ravitz in the original — will reprise their roles. Kenneth Branagh has also joined the cast, and the studio said “several others” have been added, though it did not immediately identify the new players or their characters.

The teaser follows earlier reports that production had begun in New York City and that director David Frankel, who helmed the 2006 original, was involved again — signals that the project is moving from behind-the-scenes development into an aggressive marketing phase ahead of next year’s release. Dropping this short, stylised teaser now sets expectations for a fuller trailer campaign to come and gives a firm date for theatrical bookings and festival consideration.

The Devil Wears Prada started life as Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller — inspired in part by her time as an assistant at Vogue — and the 2006 film became a cultural touchstone for its portrayal of the fashion industry and the formidable editor archetype. Anna Wintour herself has previously acknowledged the film’s entertainment value, joking during a September appearance on The New Yorker Radio Hour that she attended the first premiere “wearing Prada” and found Meryl Streep “fantastic” in the role.

With the teaser now public and a clear release date set for May 1, 2026, studios and fans will be watching for a full trailer, additional casting details about Branagh’s role, and publicity dates for premieres. For now the brief clip offers a nostalgic but charged promise: Miranda Priestly is back on the Runway floor, and Andy Sachs has returned for the next chapter of their famously fraught relationship.
