The Baby-Sitters Club, beloved by many, is making its return, but this time as a stage musical. TWTheatricals announced its plans to adapt Ann M. Martin’s cherished series into a musical production. The creative team includes Kate Wetherhead, noted for her work on musicals like The Devil Wears Prada and Ever After, who will pen the play, with Mark Sonnenblick, the musical force behind KPop Demon Hunters, crafting the music and lyrics. Directed and choreographed by Annie Tippe, known for works like Ghost Quartet and Octet, this new adaptation promises to bring the essence of the classic series to the theater.

Scheduled for an industry presentation in November, the official premiere is anticipated in spring 2027. The story revisits Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey, the club’s founding members, now returning to their roots in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, twelve years after disbanding as they reflect on past experiences and their impacts on their present realities. It’s an exploration of their identities, careers, relationships, and personal fulfillment.

The creative team draws inspiration from the 80s and 90s, echoing the original setting of the book series, with musical influences from artists like Sheryl Crow and Indigo Girls. This nostalgic element will attract both long-time fans and new audiences, recreating the magic of The Baby-Sitters Club and showcasing its timeless themes of friendship and personal growth.

Barbara Pasternack from TWTheatricals highlighted the novel’s enduring impact on young women and girls, celebrating its continued influence on generations. This upcoming production aims to blend nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, resonating with adults who grew up with the series and inviting new audiences to experience its uplifting themes.

With over 250 books, as well as graphic novels, TV adaptations, and films, The Baby-Sitters Club franchise has left a significant mark in popular culture. This musical adaptation is expected to extend that legacy, bringing a hopeful and heartwarming tale of friendship and self-discovery to the stage once again.
