Tevita Ikanivere, the co-captain of the Fijian Drua, has officially joined the Japanese club MIE Honda Heat for the 2025/2026 season. This signing, announced by the club on their website, marks a significant transition in the 26-year-old’s career, coming months after his departure from the Drua. Ikanivere expressed excitement about the move, saying, “I’m thankful and grateful to MIE Honda Heat for giving me this opportunity. My family and I are very excited about moving to Japan and being a part of the family.”

Joining Ikanivere at the MIE Honda Heat is backrower Aseri Masivou, who has also been part of the Japan rugby scene. Despite leaving the Drua, Ikanivere has maintained a strong connection to the club, stating that it will always feel like home. He hinted at a potential return in the future, expressing hope that he might don the Drua colors again.

In addition to his club commitments, Ikanivere is currently gearing up to lead the Flying Fijians in their second Test against Scotland at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, which highlights his continuing presence in international rugby.

The departure of Ikanivere opens a new chapter not just for him but also for the Fijian Drua, who are looking to revitalize their roster with fresh talent. This infusion of new players is viewed positively and is expected to maintain the competitive spirit of the team in Super Rugby, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of Fijian rugby.

Ikanivere’s journey reflects both personal ambition and the broader trend of Fijian players seeking opportunities abroad, strengthening international ties while still honoring their roots in Fiji. As the Drua navigates this transition, fans can remain hopeful for the emerging talent that will shape the future of Fijian rugby.
