Tensions Rise in Suva: Police Urge Calm After Nightclub Brawl

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu has issued a stern warning against individuals taking justice into their own hands following a recent altercation involving nightclub bouncers in Suva last Saturday. Observing heightened emotions in the community, ACP Driu urged all parties to remain calm and refrain from making threats on social media.

He emphasized that acting on impulses would worsen the situation, stating, “Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything.” The police have begun to detain individuals associated with the incident, including one bouncer currently in custody. ACP Driu noted that officers from the Totogo Police Station are actively gathering statements and evidence from witnesses in Namatakula Village.

The police are committed to thoroughly investigating the event and have asked the community for cooperation, urging everyone to allow them the time to conduct their work properly. They will continue to keep an eye on social media activity to prevent any further escalation.

This statement promotes a sense of responsibility and reliance on law enforcement, which is crucial for maintaining public safety. By encouraging cooperation with the police, ACP Driu aims to foster a more peaceful resolution to the conflict.

It is essential for the community to recognize the importance of patience and trust in the justice system, as resolutions to conflicts should be left in the hands of the authorities who are trained to handle such matters. This cooperative approach may ultimately lead to healing and understanding within the community.
