Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau has raised doubts about the cognitive abilities of Opposition MP Ketan Lal, questioning his grasp of government operations. Tuisawau’s remarks came in light of Lal’s recent call for his resignation following the collapse of the Vuniyasi Bridge in Nadi on Monday, which the Opposition MP cited as a clear indication of the government’s failure to prioritize the safety of Fijians.

Tuisawau defended his position by pointing out that despite Lal’s time at the Fiji National University, he seems unable to comprehend the complexities of governance. In a further rebuttal, Tuisawau accused Lal of hypocrisy, especially after recent resignations within their party, including prominent leaders like Voreqe Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He emphasized that Lal was elected to Parliament through the support of voters, which he interpreted as a call for accountability from Lal.

This exchange highlights the tensions between the ruling government and the opposition, particularly regarding infrastructure safety and governance standards. It underscores the need for constructive dialogue to address the concerns raised by citizens regarding public safety. As Fiji navigates these challenges, there is hope that such debates can lead to improved policy-making and infrastructure maintenance, ultimately benefiting the community.
