Tempers Flare in Parliament: Apologies Issued Amid Unruly Debates

The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, expressed his regrets to the House for his inappropriate behavior and language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday, as per Standing Orders 80. He stated, “I would like to apologize to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used in this House, which may have offended any individual Member.”

Similarly, Opposition MP Praveen Bala also offered his apologies under Standing Order 80 if his use of unparliamentary language had caused any offense.

In response, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum within the House. He remarked, “I would like to implore you, honourable Members of this august House, to always keep the decorum.”

Ratu Naiqama noted the need for restraint, suggesting that some members may become overly heated during discussions. He reminded them to be mindful of the public and children who observe the proceedings either on television or in person.
