The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, issued an apology to the House for his inappropriate behavior and use of unparliamentary language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday, as stated under Standing Orders 80. Singh expressed regret by saying, “I would like to apologise to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used in this House, which may have offended any individual Member of this House.”
Opposition MP Praveen Bala also took the opportunity to apologize if he had caused any hurt with his use of unparliamentary terms.
In response, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum in the House. He remarked, “I would like to implore you honourable Members of this august House, let us keep the decorum always,” and noted that the Members’ tempers seemed to escalate quickly from calmness to anger. Ratu Naiqama urged Members to be mindful of the public and children who watch the parliamentary proceedings either on television or from the gallery.
