The TEMC Warriors rugby team, hailing from Soso Village in Kadavu, is focused on fostering young talent as they prepare for the prestigious Fiji Bitter Mataso Sevens tournament next week. After recently demonstrating their skills in the inaugural Fiji Bitter series held in Kadavu, the team has gained valuable experience and is ready to give their utmost in the upcoming Mataso 7s.

Head coach David Dakuitoga is at the forefront of their preparations, emphasizing the importance of individual player development as they aim to unite the diverse talents of both local players and guest athletes. Although the Warriors opted out of the Malake 7s, club president Sireli Volavola is committed to a developmental project that marks the beginning of their journey to participate in more tournaments within their financial capabilities this year.

Dakuitoga stated, “We are working on getting our young players to step up and own their roles and positions.” With many seasoned Fiji 7s representatives unavailable due to national duties, the focus is on preparing the younger players to rise to the occasion and fill the gaps. He mentioned, “The bar has been set so high for our young ones. We are working on getting them ready to fill those shoes this year.”

The team’s approach prioritizes player welfare and aims to provide the best resources possible for optimal performance. Dakuitoga also expressed gratitude to Top End Mobile Contracting for being the sole sponsor of their project.

An inspiring aspect of the TEMC Warriors is their commitment to celebrating the cultural connections between Soso Village in Kadavu and the surrounding communities. The Fiji Bitter Mataso Sevens tournament is scheduled for November 15-16 at Churchill Park in Lautoka, offering the Warriors a platform to showcase their hard work and dedication.

This proactive approach to nurturing young talent not only sets a positive precedent for the future of rugby in Kadavu but also fosters community spirit and cultural pride, bridging connections through sport.
