Telecom Fiji Teams Up with Kordia for Enhanced Connectivity

Telecom Fiji has announced a new partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of critical communication technology solutions, aiming to enhance internet services for users in Fiji.

As part of this agreement, Kordia will establish a crucial North transmission network in Vanua Levu, which will link the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange through cutting-edge Ciena transmission equipment. This project represents a significant advancement in Fiji’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Telecom Fiji’s CEO, Charles Goundar, emphasized that this collaboration with Kordia is essential for expanding the network’s capacity and reliability, especially in Vanua Levu. He stated, “The new transmission network will support the growing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services across Fiji, enabling us to deliver more robust and scalable solutions for our customers.” Goundar also highlighted the commitment to driving Fiji’s digital transformation through this partnership.

Kordia brings substantial experience in designing and maintaining critical networks across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific. The company has collaborated with Ciena, a leader in optical and routing systems, to create a solution tailored to the needs of Telecom Fiji. Brent La Franchie, Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed excitement about partnering with Telecom Fiji for this key infrastructure project, stating that they look forward to providing advanced, future-proof connectivity for the people of Fiji.

Additionally, Kordia has notable accomplishments in the region, including projects for InterChange Vanuatu, Fintel’s network in Fiji, and support for Tonga Telecom. With the combined efforts of Kordia and Ciena, Telecom Fiji is poised to ensure a successful rollout of the North transmission network, paving the way for improved connectivity, reliability, and capacity across Fiji’s digital landscape.
