Telecom Fiji has announced a partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of essential communication technology solutions, which promises to enhance internet connectivity for users.
Through this agreement, Kordia will establish a crucial North transmission network in Vanua Levu, linking the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange with state-of-the-art Ciena transmission equipment. This initiative is a significant step in upgrading Fiji’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar emphasized that this collaboration is vital for increasing the network’s capacity and reliability, especially for Vanua Levu. He mentioned, “The new transmission network will support the rising demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services throughout Fiji, allowing us to provide even more robust and scalable solutions for our customers.”
“We are dedicated to advancing Fiji’s digital transformation, and this partnership will help us realize that goal,” Goundar added.
Kordia brings extensive experience in designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining essential networks and communication infrastructures across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific. They have partnered with Ciena, a leader in optical and routing systems, to create a tailored solution for Telecom Fiji.
Brent La Franchie, the Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re excited to collaborate with Telecom Fiji to implement this crucial infrastructure project. He also mentioned that Kordia would leverage its expertise to ensure a seamless and high-quality implementation. The company has previously achieved significant milestones in the region, such as installing Ciena equipment at InterChange Vanuatu’s subsea fibre landing stations and contributing to network testing and fibre training for Tonga Telecom.
Telecom Fiji highlighted that its partnership with Kordia and Ciena will guarantee an efficient and high-quality rollout of the North transmission network, paving the way for improved connectivity, dependability, and capacity across Fiji’s digital ecosystem.
