Telecom Fiji has announced a significant partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of essential communication technology solutions. This collaboration aims to enhance internet connectivity in Fiji.
As part of the agreement, Kordia will establish a crucial North transmission network in Vanua Levu, linking the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange with cutting-edge Ciena transmission equipment. This initiative represents an important advancement in fortifying Fiji’s telecommunications framework.
Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating it is a key move toward expanding the network’s capacity and reliability, especially for Vanua Levu. He noted that the new transmission network is designed to meet the rising demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services across Fiji, allowing them to provide stronger and more scalable solutions for customers.
Goundar reaffirmed Telecom Fiji’s commitment to enhancing Fiji’s digital transformation through this partnership. Kordia brings extensive experience in designing, constructing, and maintaining critical communication networks in New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific region.
Kordia collaborated with Ciena, a global expert in optical and routing systems, to create a solution tailored for Telecom Fiji. Brent La Franchie, Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed excitement about the project, highlighting their eagerness to deliver advanced, future-ready connectivity for the people of Fiji.
He assured that Kordia would utilize its expertise to work closely with Telecom Fiji to ensure a high-quality deployment. Kordia has previously achieved various significant milestones in the region, including work on InterChange Vanuatu’s subsea fibre landing stations and the marine cable network for Fintel in Fiji, along with network support for Tonga Telecom.
Telecom Fiji stated that its collaboration with Kordia and Ciena would facilitate a smooth and efficient rollout of the North transmission network, laying the foundation for improved connectivity, dependability, and overall capacity in Fiji’s digital ecosystem.
