Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), recently celebrated the successful completion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament, which took place last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. This year marked the third consecutive event, bringing together enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, and supporters. Remarkably, the tournament raised a record-breaking total of $33,420, the highest since its inception.
The previous fundraising efforts were commendable as well, with amounts of $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022, highlighting the increasing generosity and commitment from participants. The funds raised will enable the Fiji Cancer Society to enhance its outreach programs, improve resources, and upgrade patient support services by purchasing essential equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and care.
In support of the Movember initiative, the event also offered free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings in partnership with the Ministry of Health, underscoring the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare measures.
Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.” Similarly, Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the event’s impact, noting that “Cancer awareness through sports resonates deeply with many people.”
This annual tournament not only sets the tone for strong community engagement but also illustrates how collaborative efforts can lead to meaningful change. With the funds remaining dedicated to cancer support initiatives, the future looks brighter for those affected by cancer in Fiji.
In conclusion, it is heartening to see businesses like Telecom Fiji taking active steps to assist in health-related causes. Their commitment helps promote awareness and drive necessary resources for fighting cancer, ultimately contributing to healthier communities.
