Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society, successfully wrapped up the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. Now in its third year, the tournament attracted enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, and supporters, raising an impressive total of $33,420—marking a record high for the event.
This year’s fundraising outperformed previous years, including $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022, demonstrating the notable growth and impact of the tournament, as well as the increasing generosity of participants. The funds will significantly support the Fiji Cancer Society’s outreach initiatives, helping to enhance resources and improve patient support services, such as acquiring essential equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and care.
In alignment with the Movember initiative, the tournament included free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings through a partnership with the Ministry of Health, highlighting the vital role of early detection and preventive healthcare in combating cancer.
Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support the Fiji Cancer Society, stating, “This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.” Similarly, Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the importance of raising cancer awareness through sports, stating, “Every swing at this tournament represents a step toward reducing the burden of cancer in our communities.”
