Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), recently concluded its annual Charity Golf Tournament, which took place last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. In its third year running, this event was a remarkable success, attracting enthusiastic golfers and community supporters, and raising an impressive $33,420—setting a new fundraising record.

This significant increase in funds compared to previous years—$25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022—demonstrates the growing enthusiasm and generosity of participants. The collected funds will empower the Fiji Cancer Society to broaden its outreach programs, enhance resources, and improve support services for cancer patients. This includes vital equipment for cancer testing and diagnosis, reflecting the commitment to better healthcare for those in need.

Adding to the event’s community health impact, free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings were conducted, aligning with the Movember initiative and promoting the importance of early detection and preventive health care.

Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed pride in supporting FCS, stating that the tournament represents a deep community commitment to combating cancer. Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, acknowledged that the intersection of sports and cancer awareness resonates with people, emphasizing that every shot in the tournament contributes to alleviating cancer’s impact in communities.

Telecom Fiji is a key telecommunications provider, committed to delivering innovative ICT solutions and personalized support, while the Fiji Cancer Society has been advocating for cancer awareness and patient support since its inception in 1993.

This event not only showcases the commitment of both organizations to their communities but also highlights the robust partnership between corporate entities and charitable organizations to effect positive change.

In summary, this year’s Charity Golf Tournament has not only raised substantial funds but has also united the community in the fight against cancer, fostering hope and support for a healthier future.
