Telecom Fiji has announced a new partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider specializing in critical communication technology solutions, improving internet connectivity for users in Fiji.
As part of this collaboration, Kordia will develop a significant North transmission network in Vanua Levu, connecting the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange through advanced Ciena transmission technology. This initiative is a pivotal step in enhancing Fiji’s telecommunications infrastructure. Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar emphasized that this partnership is essential for expanding network capacity and reliability, especially for the Vanua Levu region.
Goundar remarked, “The new transmission network will fulfill the increasing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services across Fiji, enabling us to deliver even more robust and scalable solutions for our customers.” He also stated the company’s dedication to fostering Fiji’s digital transformation, highlighting that this collaboration will play a crucial role in achieving that goal.
Kordia brings extensive experience in designing, building, operating, and maintaining essential networks and communication infrastructure across New Zealand, Australia, and the broader Pacific area. The company has collaborated closely with Ciena, a global leader in optical and routing systems, to create a tailored solution for Telecom Fiji’s needs. Brent La Franchie, Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed excitement about partnering with Telecom Fiji on this key infrastructure project.

Kordia has achieved several notable milestones in the region, including the installation and commissioning of Ciena equipment at InterChange Vanuatu’s subsea fiber landing stations, Fintel’s marine cable network in Fiji, and fiber training and network testing services for Tonga Telecom. Their consultancy and fiber testing assistance for Telecom Fiji’s optical fiber network further fortifies Kordia’s status as a trusted partner.
