A 19-year-old woman was arrested by police in Nausori today after being found dressed in a police uniform while walking in a public area. The individual, a high school student from Nausori, sparked concerns regarding impersonation of law enforcement.
Wame Boutolu, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed the arrest and indicated that the Nausori police are conducting interviews to determine the source of the uniform. In addition to the police attire, the teenager was also wearing shoes issued by the police department.
According to Section 382 of the Crimes Act 2009, it is a criminal offense to wear a police uniform without proper authorization. If the teenager is found guilty, she could face a penalty of up to one month in jail and a fine of $500.
