A 19-year-old girl was taken into custody by Nausori police today for impersonating a police officer by wearing a police uniform. The individual was apprehended while walking in a public area. Authorities believe she is a high school student from Nausori.
Police spokesperson Wame Boutolu confirmed the incident and stated that the Nausori police are currently investigating the source of the uniform. In addition to the police uniform, the teenager was also wearing shoes issued to police officers.
According to Section 382 of the Crimes Act 2009, it is illegal to wear a police uniform without the appropriate authorization. If convicted, the teenager could face a penalty of one month in prison and a fine of $500.
This incident serves as a reminder of the seriousness of impersonating law enforcement officials, which can undermine public trust and safety. It also highlights the importance of awareness regarding unauthorized use of police attire, reinforcing the legal boundaries that protect the integrity of law enforcement.
It is hoped that the young woman will learn from this experience and recognize the importance of lawful behavior moving forward.
