A 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old, Devekuta Ledua Vererua, have been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Suva for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy in Lami last month. The three accused appeared before Magistrate Pulekeria Low yesterday.
Each of the two minors and Vererua has been charged with one count of rape. It is alleged that the incident occurred on August 30, 2024, at the home of the victim’s relative.
Additionally, in a separate case, it was revealed that the 17-year-old is facing charges of sexual harassment for reportedly harassing an 18-year-old woman last month.
Furthermore, it was disclosed in court that Vererua had previously been charged with one count of rape in 2021. The case has now been transferred to the High Court, where it is scheduled to be addressed for the first time on August 27.
