The Magistrates Court in Suva has ordered the detention of three individuals, a 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old named Devekuta Ledua Vererua, in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy in Lami last month.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Pulekeria Low yesterday, facing one charge of rape each. It is alleged that the incident occurred on August 30, 2024, at a relative’s home of the victim.
Additionally, the court learned that the 17-year-old is facing a separate charge of sexual harassment involving an 18-year-old woman, with the alleged incident occurring last month.
The court also noted that Vererua was previously charged with one count of rape in 2021. The case has been forwarded to the High Court and is scheduled for its first mention on August 27.
