The road fatality count for the year has tragically risen to 57, following the death of a 16-year-old boy in a recent accident. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the incident occurred on December 3 around 1 a.m. when the young driver lost control of his vehicle on Korotari Road in Labasa. The car veered off the road and collided with a culvert.
Emergency responders rushed the boy to Labasa Hospital, where he was treated until he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. SSP Divuana noted that the victim was driving without a valid driver’s license, and this detail will be a crucial aspect of the ongoing investigation into the accident.
This tragic incident underscores the importance of road safety and responsible driving practices, particularly among young and inexperienced drivers. As communities mourn this loss, it serves as a stark reminder for parents and guardians to educate their children about safe driving habits and the legal responsibilities associated with operating a vehicle.
In light of these unfortunate events, there’s hope that this incident might inspire greater awareness and underscore the need for stricter regulations regarding young drivers to prevent such tragedies in the future.
