Hannah Wise, a 14-year-old swimmer, recently showcased her talent at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, achieving remarkable success. Competing for the Great White Sharks team based in Lautoka, this Year 9 student from Tilak High School earned two gold medals during the event.

Wise described the competition as challenging but rewarding, noting the speed of her fellow competitors. “The competition has been great; swimming against experienced swimmers is tough, but I’m grateful for my achievements,” she stated.

Although the competition presented difficulties, Wise remained dedicated to her goals, taking part in six events and clinching gold medals for her team on the first day. “My aim is to earn all gold medals. If not, then I just want to improve my times; that was my goal entering the competition.”

Having developed a passion for swimming over the past six years, she attributes her interest to her grandmother, who enrolled her and her siblings in swimming classes after retirement. “My motivation is my grandmother,” Wise explained.

Swimming brings her joy and tranquility, but the balance between academics and training can be challenging. She often feels fatigued after practice sessions, yet remains focused on excelling in both areas.

Wise expressed her deep appreciation for her coach and family, acknowledging their continuous support throughout her swimming endeavors.
