Setareki Turagacoke, an impressive 18-year-old, kicked off his international rugby career by debuting for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians against Spain, contributing to a remarkable 33-19 win during their Europe Tour. Hailing from Dakuinuku in Sawakasa, Korovou, Tailevu, Turagacoke not only made his long-awaited debut but also made it even more memorable by scoring a try in a thrilling comeback victory.
His call-up to the Flying Fijians squad came just last week when he stepped in for the injured Temo Mayanavanua. Initially listed in the reserves, Turagacoke made a significant impact during the second half of the match.
Currently, he plays for the Stade Français Club in France, having joined the team last year after completing his Year 12 studies at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori. Turagacoke’s journey began at the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy, which he joined at the age of 14, and he has also been a crucial part of the FRU HPU Pathway.
Looking ahead, Turagacoke is expected to see more playing time as the Flying Fijians prepare for their final match of the Europe Tour against Ireland this weekend. His debut, coupled with his evident talent, suggests a promising future not only for him personally but also for the national team as they look to build a strong rugby legacy.
This narrative showcases the potential for young athletes to rise on the international stage, offering a beacon of hope for aspiring rugby players in Fiji and beyond.
