Setareki Turagacoke, at just 18 years old, made an impressive debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in their recent 33-19 victory over Spain during their European tour. The young athlete hails from Dakuinuku, Sawakasa in the Korovou region of Tailevu, and his debut was further marked by a memorable try that contributed to his team’s comeback win.
Turagacoke was called up to the Flying Fijians squad only late last week, stepping in for the injured Temo Mayanavanua. Initially named as one of the reserves, he made a significant impact upon entering the field in the second half of the game.
Currently, he plays for Stade Français Club in France, a move he made last year after completing his Year 12 education at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori. Turagacoke is a product of the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy, where he began his rugby journey at the age of 14. He also has experience as a member of the FRU High-Performance Unit Pathway, which highlights his dedication to the sport.
Looking ahead, Turagacoke is anticipated to receive more playing time when the Flying Fijians take on Ireland in their final match of the European tour this weekend.
This debut is not only a significant milestone for Turagacoke himself but also a source of inspiration for young athletes in Fiji, showcasing how perseverance and talent can pave the way to success on an international stage. The future looks bright for this young player, and fans eagerly await his continued contributions to the team.
