Setareki Turagacoke, an 18-year-old rugby talent, made a remarkable debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in their impressive 33-19 win against Spain during their Europe Tour. Hailing from Dakuinuku in Korovou, Tailevu, Turagacoke further enhanced his debut by scoring a try during the match, contributing to his team’s comeback victory.
Turagacoke was called up to join the Flying Fijians late last week after Temo Mayanavanua sustained an injury. Starting on the bench, he made a significant impact by entering the game in the second half. Currently, he plays for Stade Français Club in France, having joined the team last year after finishing Year 12 at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori.
A product of the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy, which he joined at the age of 14, Turagacoke has been part of the FRU HPU Pathway, honing his skills and preparing for a professional career. He is expected to receive more playing opportunities as the Flying Fijians gear up to face Ireland in their final match of the Europe Tour this weekend.
This young athlete’s journey from local rugby to the international stage highlights the potential of emerging talents in the sport and reflects a hopeful future for Fiji rugby on the world stage. With the support of strong training programs and opportunities, young players like Turagacoke can continue to inspire others in their communities to pursue their rugby dreams.
