The Rotary Club of Suva recently hosted its annual Charity Golf Day, marking not just a showcase of golfing talent but also a significant fundraising effort for local health initiatives. Held at the Fiji golf course in Vatuwaqa, the event featured over 120 participants, reflecting a strong community spirit and participation.
Club president Laisa Digitaki expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support from corporate sponsors who generously sponsored all 18 holes of the course. “We were expecting this number of participants this year,” she noted, highlighting the continued engagement and enthusiasm surrounding the event.
Aimed at revitalizing the Cardiac Unit Cath Lab at CWM Hospital—a project initiated in 2009—the funds raised will support essential tools and spaces for local and overseas medical volunteers who conduct critical heart procedures such as stent placements and angioplasties.
Women’s Golf Fiji president Susie Yee, a long-time participant of the tournament, shared her positive experience. She emphasized the blend of competition and charitable purpose and noted an influx of new players this year, which added excitement to the event. “I have been playing for this tournament for a few years now, it’s a really great competition for charity,” Yee remarked, encouraging more community members to embrace the sport while supporting important causes.
The day embodied a spirit of camaraderie and philanthropy, showcasing how sporting events can unite people for an impactful mission. Events like these not only contribute significantly to healthcare improvements in Fiji but also foster community bonds and encourage more individuals to engage with golf.
Overall, the combination of golf, community support, and health-centered initiatives provides a hopeful narrative for the future, emphasizing the positive impact that charitable events can create.
