Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), celebrated the successful conclusion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament last month at the Vatuwaqa Golf Club in Suva. Now in its third consecutive year, this much-anticipated event attracted enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, and supporters, raising a remarkable $33,420—setting a new fundraising record.
The funds collected this year exceeded previous totals of $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022, showcasing the growing support for this worthy cause and the generosity of participants. The proceeds will significantly enhance the Fiji Cancer Society’s outreach programs, resources, and patient support services, including the acquisition of vital equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and care. This year’s tournament also aligned with the Movember initiative by offering free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings in partnership with the Ministry of Health, underscoring the critical importance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed his appreciation: “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament transcends the boundaries of a typical sporting event; it symbolizes our community’s dedication to fighting cancer. We take pride in partnering with FCS to create a meaningful impact.”
Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the event’s importance: “Integrating cancer awareness with sports resonates with many. Each swing at this tournament represents a step towards alleviating the burden of cancer in our communities. We are deeply thankful for the generous contributions from Telecom Fiji and all our sponsors who made this event possible.”
Telecom Fiji continues to stand as a crucial provider of telecommunications solutions in the country, while the Fiji Cancer Society plays a vital role in cancer advocacy, education, and patient support, having been established in 1993.
This successful tournament is not just a victory for fundraising; it’s a testament to the strength of community collaboration in tackling significant health issues. The continued support from local companies like Telecom Fiji symbolizes hope and progress in the ongoing fight against cancer. With each event, awareness and resources grow, fostering a healthier future for the people of Fiji.
