Strengthening the fight against illegal drugs in Fiji requires advancements in surveillance technology for the Counter Narcotics Unit, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs. As outlined in the Police Reset document, tackling narcotic issues necessitates a committed, strategic approach.

The new unit will initially be staffed by trained police officers but will receive direction from the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure both accountability and independence in operations. This structure aims to enhance the effectiveness of efforts against drug trafficking.

To better identify and disrupt drug routes and networks, the document emphasizes the importance of enhancing intelligence-gathering techniques and collaborating with international agencies. Key recommendations include equipping the unit with modern surveillance tools such as drones and advanced tracking systems to effectively monitor and intercept drug-related activities. Regular operations are also proposed to apprehend traffickers and seize narcotics.

Additionally, an executive plan for rehabilitation has been included, suggesting a partnership between the Fiji Police Force and health organizations. This program will aim to support drug users through treatment and reintegration into society, highlighting a comprehensive approach to addressing drug-related issues.

This initiative represents a hopeful step towards creating a safer environment in Fiji by addressing drug trafficking and supporting individuals affected by drug use. By integrating technology, international cooperation, and rehabilitation, Fiji is setting a proactive example in the global fight against narcotics.
