A father of five was overcome with emotion as he watched his eldest son, Sakaraia Qilu, collect two prestigious awards at the Fiji National University graduation ceremony. Alipate Moli, the family’s main provider, attended the event along with his entire family to celebrate his son’s accomplishments, which included the Outstanding Academic Achievement Graduate in Nursing and a Certificate of Excellence with Dean’s Honors.
Mr. Moli expressed his deep pride, stating that the moment represented the culmination of years of hard work in support of his children’s education. He shared the challenges of being away from home, as his job in the hotel industry requires him to work 11 days on a resort island and spend just three days with his family. Despite the limited time, he remains connected with his children through regular phone calls to check on their academic progress.
Sakaraia Qilu’s success was not unexpected; he had previously excelled academically, earning third place during his Years Nine to Eleven at Saint Peter Chanel School in Korolevu and being recognized as the best Biology student in his Year 12 and 13. He revealed his passion for nursing was driven by a love for caring for others and expressed his aspirations to further his education by pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, eventually aiming for a doctorate.
In a message to his siblings, Mr. Qilu emphasized the importance of education and encouraged them to stay in school to avoid negative influences. His gratitude extended to his mother for her constant reminders about the realities of life. He also urged fellow students to surround themselves with supportive friends, believing that a positive social circle is crucial for success.
This heartwarming narrative reflects the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of education in shaping a bright future. It serves as an inspiring reminder that dedication and support from family can lead to significant achievements. Mr. Qilu’s journey reinforces the notion that with determination and the right mindset, individuals can transcend their circumstances and set a positive example for future generations.
